The Junior League of Portland is committed to identifying projects where financial assistance, administration and volunteers can be combined to address specific community needs. Examples of past community development projects include:
Volunteers have worked at the Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Clubs, North Portland Community Health Clinic, the YWCA Transitional School for the Homeless, and Free Arts for Abused Children. We have provided life skills training for homeless women at several Portland area shelters.
League members have been involved with educational opportunities in the community by participating in zoo programs for the deaf, educational television, and docent programs at the World Forestry Center, Portland Art Museum and Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
Involvement in historic preservation has included working at the Oregon Historical Society, designing and implementing urban and historical walking tours, and the restoration of Timberline Lodge and Pittock Mansion.
