Awareness is key to ending sex trafficking in our community. Citizens who see Waiting for the Light: Portland’s Sex Trafficking Crisis will have new awareness of this issue and have some tools and ideas about how they can help fight sex trafficking.

Inspiring Collaboration in our Community
The Portland Instagram Group launched an Instagram campaign in support of our April screening.
The campaign ran March 18th - April 18th and featured images of traffic lights along with the hashtags #WaitingForTheLight and #JLPDX. Users tagged the Junior League of Portland @JuniorLeaguePDX.
The Portland Instagram Group was the very first organized Instagram meet up group in the world. They number over 500 members. After group members attended the premiere of the documentary in January of this year, they were dismayed to hear that Instagram was mentioned as a tool for recruitment for sex traffickers. They were inspired to help make Instagram a part of the solution.
About the Commmittee
The Junior League of Portland's Stop Human Trafficking Committee was formed to focus on spreading awareness, advocating for survivors, and community collaboration. Together with the community, we strive to shed light on domestic human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children. Through funding from the Junior League of Portland and a grant from La Salle Preparatory School, JLP made a documentary,Waiting for the Light: Portland’s Sex Trafficking Crisis, which focuses on child sex trafficking right here in Portland, OR.
